Drawing control / steel fabrication

Can the shop cut from this drawing today?

A drawing number alone does not answer that question. The shop needs the revision, its status, when it was issued, and whether the drawing has changed since issue. Those checks belong in one register that drafting and fabrication can both read.

Before release

Check the register before the saw.

If any entry is missing or disagrees with the print on the floor, resolve it with the person responsible for issue. A status in software is a record of the decision; it does not replace that decision.

  1. 01

Match the drawing number and revision

Compare the shop copy with the current register entry. An old revision can still look complete and ready to fabricate.

  2. 02

Read the status and issue date

A revision under review is different from one issued to the shop. The issue date tells you which release the copy belongs to.

  3. 03

    Check changes since issue

If the drawing changed after it was issued, hold the question open until drafting confirms what the shop should use.

Where the model fits

Keep the Tekla model and the shop register on the same job sheets.

DraftFlow records a drawing's number, revision, status and issue date. Its companion for Tekla Structures 2024 works per job sheet from inside Tekla: it raises RFIs with the selected members, runs QA review with notes on members, and sends the job sheet's phase as IFC. The shop records cut, fabricated and painted status in DraftFlow.

Current companion status

The companion is built and has run against a live Tekla model. It does not write register values or shop status into the Tekla drawing or model. The drawing register and in-app review are live. We show this distinction so a shop can judge what is ready for its workflow.
